In a city that never blinks and barely breathes, where bright lights and blockbuster events are the norm, one woman dared to dream differently. She did not want to just throw parties; she wanted to tell stories through them. Welcome to the world of SoLiza Events, where every event is a love letter to creativity, detail, and intentionality. For small and medium enterprises (SMEs) navigating saturated markets, this is the blueprint for turning passion into an unforgettable brand.
For Liza Ceja-Mendez, owner and lead event planner of SoLiza Events, it all started with a deep-rooted love for creating moments that matter. Armed with a background in hospitality and branding, she envisioned an event company that ditched the glittery clichés of Las Vegas and embraced thoughtful, elegant celebration. Her mission was to infuse every event with style, soul, and storytelling. “I wanted to bring elevated, intentional, and stylish events to Las Vegas, especially for clients who want more than a cookie-cutter experience,” says Liza.
Carving a niche in the city of spectacle
Las Vegas may be the global capital of excess, but SoLiza found its niche in being truer. By focusing on personalised, emotionally resonant, boutique-style experiences, the brand carved a unique space in a competitive landscape. Instead of scaling up, SoLiza scaled inward, perfecting the art of custom curation, offering everything from weddings and social events to corporate gatherings, all with a signature high-end aesthetic and hands-on service.
What began as a small styling service has grown into a full-service planning and design studio. Over the years, SoLiza has added in-house rentals, built a dedicated team, launched a weddings-only brand extension, and even invested in a warehouse to support a growing inventory.
Each milestone was a calculated leap of faith. “The decision to invest in a warehouse could have either catapulted us or become a burden. But leaning into the fear and backing it with a solid plan turned it into momentum,” Liza admits.
A woman, a vision, a force
From juggling logistics with creativity to dealing with seasonal slowdowns and backend system overloads, the road has been far from smooth. One of the toughest parts was staying boutique while scaling. “It’s a tightrope act, especially when consistency, personal attention, and quality are the cornerstones of your brand. Yet SoLiza has done it by ensuring each client feels heard, valued, and genuinely celebrated,” says Liza.
As a female entrepreneur balancing business and motherhood, Liza has encountered her fair share of bias and underestimation. But instead of dimming her light, she used it to blaze a trail. “These challenges taught me to lead with confidence and to create a business model that honours both ambition and family,” Liza shares.
And that spirit reflects in her collaborative work too, like the Galentine’s Day event co-hosted with other women-led local businesses, which created buzz, boosted client referrals, and built stronger community ties.
Serving both locals and travellers, SoLiza knows the nuances of each. While locals prefer a more hands-on approach, destination clients lean on the team to be their boots-on-ground, offering venue scouting, curated vendor lists, and virtual walkthroughs.
The ability to tailor experiences based on these dynamics has set SoLiza apart and deepened its ties to Las Vegas’s booming tourism sector. “Events are a major driver of tourism here, and we are crafting experiences that define someone’s trip to Vegas,” says Liza.
For SoLiza, success is about the emotional high of a tearful bride, the joy of a client saying, ‘This was better than I imagined,’ and the value of strong vendor relationships.
Even as the business expands, with digital tools, enhanced rentals, and a potential event space on the horizon, SoLiza remains fiercely committed to its boutique DNA. Every client and every event still gets that warm, personalised attention. Liza also trains her team to embody the same ethos, ensuring the brand’s heart scales alongside its operations.
Lessons for SMEs
SoLiza’s journey offers some profound insights for SMEs:
- Start with your ‘why’. It’s your north star when the road gets foggy.
- Trust and efficiency are currency, especially when working with travellers.
- Community collaborations create compound success, so lean into local support systems.
- Authenticity scales only if you protect it fiercely.
If you are an SME dreaming of building something meaningful, stop waiting for perfection. Start messy, stay passionate, and scale with purpose. The risk you are afraid to take might just be the one that changes everything.
SoLiza Events is more than an inspiring business; it is a reminder that when small businesses stay rooted in authenticity and community, they can redefine big cities.
